About this campaign

Over the years, we've given away thousands of pieces of Weatherboy merchandise online or through our radio station partners for free. Ranging from snow measuring yardsticks and coffee mugs to t-shirts and hats, we're often asked by people if they can buy some. Our answer has always been "no" until today.

We are heartbroken by the devastation created by the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Millions of people have been impacted across the United States by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. And as of this writing, the season isn't done yet, with more landfalls possible before the season ends in November.

Rather than sell for profit, we have decided to make our first sale a fundraiser for those hurricane survivors and victims. Rather than earn any money ourselves, money raised from the sale of these t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies will be given to those that need it the most.

The Weatherboy brand identity has always been colorful, clean and cheerful. We're making these items with a special edition black & white logo that shows Weatherboy dirty and saddened by what's happened this hurricane season.

For this effort, we have decided to send funds to The Salvation Army and their Hurricane Relief Efforts. We have witnessed their efforts on the ground to get food, drinks, cleaning supplies, and shelter to those in need in areas hit hard by the storms. Give.org also gives the Salvation Army high scores for the way it's run the the percentage of donations that get to people that actually need it. In describing their hurricane relief efforts, The Salvation Army says, "We’re also always ready with a shoulder to cry on – to give a hug or words of hope – to pray with you and for everyone you love. And we won’t stop when the winds die down and the flood waters recede. We’ll remain until the healing is complete, until all this devastation is but a memory."

Please join us in helping them help those that really need it this hurricane season!

WB_BudsiesgifWeatherboy is the cumulative efforts of a team of people passionate about connecting you with the wonderful world of weather. Whether we’re on television or radio, in print, or online, we’re committed to giving you access to information and knowledge about meteorology and broader earth sciences.

While we appear online as a happy-go-lucky young weather enthusiast, we’re very serious about the weather. Any weather content produced in any medium under the Weatherboy brand is developed by trained, college-educated meteorologists. Even in social media, our company policy requires that public-facing members of our team be a current and active member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. This requirement is one way we ensure our team is current with the latest the science of meteorology offers.

The Weatherboy character has roots to one of our founding meteorologists, made famous on national television in the 1990s. Since then, Weatherboy has appeared on countless television and radio programs as regular meteorologist or guest earth science expert. The advent of social media and the existence of properties like MySpace allowed those familiar with Weatherboy from radio and TV to connect with the brand and character.

However, as the social media revolution continued and the public’s media consumption habits shifted, social became a key way people got their weather information and news. Rather than supporting broadcast endeavors, a presence on Facebook and Twitter became a primary communications channel for us to get the word out about the weather. By the time Hurricane Irene traveled up the US east coast in 2011, Weatherboy’s Facebook presence became a significant player in the weather news space. By the time Hurricane Sandy approached the same area the following year, Weatherboy’s presence as a major force in the meteorology space was cemented.

Weatherboy continues to leverage new technology to connect with audiences. Whether it’s a sizable presence with Snapchat or an audience that watches live streams from our aerial photography drones, such as WeatherboyOne, on their mobile devices, or beyond, we are committed to connecting people of all ages with valuable, actionable weather information.

After all, We Know What’s Up Before It Comes Down!
