As a former Team USA Pro Athlete & Division 1 field hockey player, there are a lot of lessons I had to learn the hard way on my journey. How to heal my relationship with food, how to properly fuel my body, uncovering my self-worth and identity outside of sport, learning how to prioritize my mental health, navigating a dark time with burnout, injury, and my emotional health. As a young female athlete, I didn’t know what I didn’t know. It wasn’t until I reached a really dark place and had to take a break from sport that the epiphany came to me: “if I want to feel my BEST… not only on the field, but also in life… then I need to take care of myself and VALUE myself as the whole human being that I am”. And to me that meant educating myself and not overlooking any aspect of my health anymore, because I realized all of these factors contribute to my overall well-being - not only as an athlete, but more importantly as a human too. I created Whole Human Hockey as a resource to help YOU feel empowered on your journey, and as a reminder that you are not alone in what you are facing. And that after all, you are a human-first, athlete-second.
