About this campaign
Wildlife Rescue league is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife with the intent of releasing them back into their native habitat. Our licensed rehabilitators, located throughout Northern Virginia and the surrounding areas, work with a network of volunteers, wildlife centers, animal shelters, humane societies, nature centers and veterinary hospitals to provide life-saving work for wildlife. It takes the help of many dedicated WRL volunteers to staff WRL's Helpline, to locate transporters for animals and to find rehabilitators to care for the animals. WRL is supported entirely by donations from the public. The funds raised during this T-shirt campaign will go directly to buying food, medicine, and supplies for local rehabilitators helping Virginia's native wildlife.
While it may be the Year of the Rabbit for some, it's the Year of the Turtle for Wildlife Rescue League! For Wildlife Rescue League’s seventh annual T-shirt fundraiser, the focus is on the snapping turtle. Snapping turtles have existed for about 90 million years and co-existed with the dinosaurs! The common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is a large, freshwater turtle typically weighing 10 to 45 pounds and 8-20 inches long. It spends almost its entire life in the water, with females coming on land to build nests and lay a single clutch of 7-55 eggs in May through mid-June. They can live up to 30 years in the wild, and have a bite-force of 210 Newtons, strong enough to break through bone! In 2023 Wildlife Rescue League rescued over 2,000 animals from a local pond prior to its reconstruction, including snapping turtles, painted turtles, musk turtles, river cooters, carp, catfish, bass, bluegills and pearly mussels. Of those,101 were snapping turtles, with several of them weighing 40+ pounds.

I love being involved in this great organization!
I volunteer with WRL and it’s an absolutely amazing organization!
Several years ago I tried to rescue a bunny that had been left in a nest in my garden. Your group was very helpful and I learned about rescues and what steps to take. I have loved the turtles since I was in 10th grade.
Wildlife Rescue League rocks!
I am donating as I love the Wildlife Rescue League and its mission and appreciate very much all of the volunteers who love wildlife and care for them. thank you!
