About this campaign
Wildlife Rescue league is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing care for
sick, injured and orphaned wildlife with the intent of releasing them back into their native
habitat. Our licensed rehabilitators, located throughout Northern Virginia and the
surrounding areas, work with a network of volunteers, wildlife centers, animal shelters,
humane societies, nature centers and veterinary hospitals to provide life-saving work for
wildlife. It takes the help of many dedicated WRL volunteers to staff WRL's Helpline, to
locate transporters for animals and to find rehabilitators to care for the animals. WRL is
supported entirely by donations from the public. The funds raised during this T-shirt
campaign will go to providing food, medicine, and supplies for local rehabilitators helping
Virginia's native wildlife.
For Wildlife Rescue League’s fifth annual T-shirt fundraiser, we have chosen the fox! Red
foxes are small, omnivorous mammals that can be found across the country, and that are
known for their fiery coat and bright white tail. Unlike other members of the Canidae family,
foxes are solitary animals and do not live in packs. Despite this, foxes are excellent parents
and during this time they do live in small family groups for seven months while the pups
grow up. Foxes also tend to be more nocturnal, and their vertical pupils help them see while
the sun is down. An interesting fact about foxes is that they utilize the Earth's magnetic field
to help catch prey. Their eyes can see a "ring of shadow" that is always fixed north, and
when they line up the shadow with the sound of their prey, they are able to zero in on the
attack. This, combined with their excellent hearing, makes them great predators, even
though they will also consume fruit and will scavenge for food in the trash too
