11 T-Shirt Marketing Rules
1. Keep it simple.
Express your message with text, and then add artwork to support your text. Use a single font throughout your design for a clean and consistent look. Remember that cluttered and complicated designs can be confusing! Head to the lab and give it a try.
2. Contrast is key.
Select your product color and ink color with optimal contrast in mind. You want your business name, logo, and contact information to pop off the shirt, so always pair dark inks with light shirts and vice versa.
3. Find a font that fits.
Each font has a personality of its own. Modern fonts like Impact are great for standing out (security guards, road maintenance crews) while script fonts such as Lauren are softer and more delicate (yoga studios, pet care). We've helped thousands of business customers create winning designs – call us at 1-800-293-4232 for suggestions.
4. Logo is not a dirty word.
You can make a simple logo by pairing your company name (in an appropriate font) with a relevant image. For example, a graphic of a house in-the-works is ideal for a construction company, while ballet slippers are perfect for a dance studio. Head to the lab and do a search for your industry keyword to see what comes up – you just might find an image that speaks to your customers and prospects.
5. Find the product that suits your needs.
If your work is physically intensive/outdoors, consider high quality Hanes t-shirts and sweat-proof styles. Take a look at our jersey polos for casual professional look, or go with embroidered polos for office use and tradeshows.
6. Make sure it's all there.
Your custom shirts are a walking advertisement, so include all your important contact info – phone number, web address, location. Make it large enough to read from a short distance.
7. When it comes to text, bigger is often better.
Keep in mind that most people seeing your design will be at least several feet away from you, so you'll want the text large enough for them to read.
8. Create a complete and coordinated look.
Create a complete & coordinated look. A great company t-shirt looks even better when it's paired with a matching company hat or visor, or sweatshirt.
9. Put your design in the right place.
Designs on the front left chest are usually the standard, but what if the left chest is covered by a safety vest? Then you'll want to consider printing your logo on the sleeve (call us at 1-800-293-4232 for help with sleeve prints). Helpful hint: Before deciding the design's location, determine what part of the shirt will be most visible, and put your most important information there.
10. Don't go color crazy.
In most cases, it's best to keep it tasteful with one or two colors that look good with your shirt color. You'll look good and save money!
