emily jDecember 4, 2011UWO GA November 29, 2011Proposed Agenda:1.Safe Space statement – rtaify point by point- Everyone has a right to feel safe and valuable.- Safe space is a communal responsibility.- It means being safe from aggression, sexual harassment, physical assault, verbal threats and abuse, racism, sexism, classism, colonialism, ageism, ablism, homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of oppression.-Intolerance based on religion, spirituality, or lack thereof is unacceptable.- Everyone has the right to a safe space to express their feelings and experiences of oppression and to be actively listened to.- We encourage the whole assembly to develop their own sense of what a safe space society would look and feel like.- We encourage everyone to be conscious and respectful of the safety and well-being of others.2. Next GA- doodle to be made (first two weeks of term)- public space temp check: yes, a public spaceDiscussion on where: UCC atrium or Mustang Lounge? (high traffic preferable)UCC Atrium decided: Make sure to put on agenda mentioning the fall back location (2nd floor), Mustang Lounge is a 3rd space (just in case)Have a UWO General Assembly Banner for next time as a visual.. Defining Working Groupsa. Media/outreachb. Eventsc. Facilitation: to train in non-hierarchical male/female ratio way; occupy London is holding facilitation meetings every week and this could be a way for us to connect.d. Demands- form of this: GA coming up with demands and delegating to the group, then back to GA? Have their own decisions made at working group meetings then bring back to GA many ways to work- it is an opportunity to address concerns that other student groups, more connected to USC/admin etc are afraid to bring up, but that are paramount to their further functioning.- thinking globally (about the Occupy movement demands) – all very important; but thinking globally here means acting locally and applying them to our day to day space and- three elements are important in this movement: Labour, Students, and Unaware Ordinary People (strong ties among these groups will hopefully continue to be strengthened).-all occupiers are entitled to their own demands; specific here: club issues with space or administrative biases, tuition fee increases, anti-corporatization movement on all campuses, working with other campuses, perhaps changes to the student code of conducte. Legal-occupy London needs mad help with legal stuff, so they’re willing to help us there too. There are many class action law suits the group is wanting to pursuit-needing people with the knowledge back ground: outreach can possibly get to law circles (pre-Law club at UWO? Community of legal services/ombudsperson for campus stuff? Profs within the law department?)- task outreach working group with securing the legal team before it is formed as a working group; generate interest first before we have the group?-have it as an advisory committee (KNOW YOUR RIGHTS; here’s what you can and cannot do)-occupy London us going to be calling a meeting for legal support in the near future, stay tuned.f. Anti-oppression/Anti-colonialism?- flesh out the safe space statement; manage conflict within the group-understanding what the reality of Canada is, coming to terms with living on land that wasn’t/isn’t ours, operating in English; “Occupy” is a unifying term, but if it needs to be addressed, it can be addressed at a higher level. Make sure we discuss this.4. Communications:a. Email List Protocol (media and outreach is in charge of this)-announcements list: anyone who hasn’t signed up for any specific planning list (if occupy London sends out a weekly update, we will send this out)-planning list: you will have to sign up for separately. You WILL get more emails-google groups? Established.b. Facebook Presence – STRICTLY FOR PROMOTIONS/UPDATES NOT DECISION MAKING – get a page vs. a group. Organising this will be the media and outreach group and we will be called on the facebook page and email list: UWO GENERAL ASSEMBLYc. Website: occupy London will hook us up with a page on their website (when? TBA)5. Future Events- come up with an agenda for next meeting and communications sends that out; the events working group should continue to work on the next event before the next GA
