About this campaign
The Canine Advocacy Program (CAP) was created in 2009 to provide a highly trained Canine Advocate that would accompany a child victim to interviews as well as court appearances.
CAP was developed by its director, Daniel Cojanu as result of an idea from a coworker while employed as a Victim Services supervisor. After researching various programs around the country, it was felt that Michigan desperately needed such a program to assist child victims who were going to be required to testify.
With a relationship spanning ten years, CAP has partnered with Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, MI to utilize career-changed leader dog candidates for the program. The result of this relationship has been extremely successful, with 30 Canine Advocates spread throughout the State of Michigan. These well-trained dogs are currently utilized by 22 County Prosecutor’s Offices, four Child Care Advocacy Centers, and three Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault Programs.
The work of these Canine Advocates has been widely accepted by many courts throughout the State of Michigan.

I have had the privilege of seeing this program work - 1st with Sweet Amos leading the way as Michigan's 1st Canine Advocate...then as the handler of Dodger Asbury, Michigan's 1st Prosecutor-based Canine Advocate in Bay Co. Love watching CAP grow.
I work in the Hillsdale County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and we have Jager, a CAP dog. He is the best thing to ever happen to us and our victims!
