About this campaign

LISTEN is a short film made by and with nonspeaking autistics to spread awareness and promote acceptance. It came together in about 10 days with no budget! If you support the message of the film or learned something from it, please help spread acceptance and support CommunicationFIRST's effort to pull it together! https://communicationfirst.org/LISTEN

Despite publicly pledging to fund CommunicationFIRST to create an introductory short to her movie MUSIC featuring actual nonspeaking autistics, the musician Sia never followed through. Less than two weeks before the February 12 release date of her movie in the United States, we decided to try to make the short ourselves, with no funding. The film LISTEN is the result. Watch LISTEN, access a toolkit, and learn more at https://communicationfirst.org/LISTEN.

Because everyone deserves to be heard. Even those who don't speak have things to say. We need to find ways to give non-speakers alternative methods of communication.

I'm supporting this campaign because I believe that listening to nonspeaking people is essential for imagining and creating inclusive and accessible communities.

My daughter is an AAC user and has dyspraxia and aphasia. We love disability films, and she was in one! Restraint & Seclusion: Hear Our Stories.
