Many of our country’s wounded soldiers face numerous obstacles to full participation in life. America’s VetDogs is a non-profit organization that was created to provide enhanced mobility and renewed independence to United States veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities, allowing them to once again live with pride and self-reliance. America’s VetDogs was founded by the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. in 2003.
The impact this organization has had on the lives of veterans over the past decade is exemplified by the experience of Thomas Jerome (T.J.) Hromisin. T.J., a graduate of the University of Scranton. T.J. was blinded and incurred a TBI after being shot by a sniper in combat while serving our country in Iraq. As T.J. recalls "the most difficult thing after my brain injury was going from being the person who helped everyone with whatever they needed, to the person that needs help with almost everything in life. I want to have the opportunity to participate in the community the way I did before my injury.” T.J. received training from America’s VetDogs and uses a service dog to help him with everyday tasks. T.J. says, that his dog, Liberty, “changed [his] life completely.”
In order to raise funds and awareness, the University of Scranton’s Occupational Therapy Graduate Students will hold the 12th Annual Occupational Therapy Spring Fling which will benefit America’s VetDogs in the Spring of 2023. In conjunction with this event we are holding many fundraisers throughout the year. Please help us raise money for America's VetDogs!
