About this campaign
Show the world that you are helping spread the memory and positive spirit of Sam Poss! Sam's time here with us was entirely too brief, but his infectious smile and kind heart live on in the cherished memories of all who knew him. He was always a happy-go-lucky kid. A lifetime "barefooter," he was always being told, "put on your shoes!"
Through the years, he discovered that music, gaming, and tinkering with computers were the things he enjoyed most. In fact, he was very computer savvy and liked helping others fix their computer issues. Sam was always pleased to be able to assist others, and always helped his Nana and Papa whenever they needed him. Sam also earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, of which he was so proud.
In middle school, he developed a passion for playing percussion in the band, and music, in general. His band director made "Sam Poss Day" at the high school, where all the kids would wear their socks like Sam - one tall sock and one short sock. During Sam's Senior year, he led the percussion as the Captain of the Drum Line.
You can be a part of celebrating his life by purchasing and proudly wearing one of these shirts. Let the world know he was a young man whose life is to be remembered, not his passing! The design on the front features a heart made of treble and bass clefs, from Sam's love of music, a computer chip "North Star" above the heart from Sam's love of all things electronic and his desire to assist anyone. And, Sam's Mom Nicole's #Lovewins to remind everyone that, by doing something positive, Love indeed wins. The back features Sam's Bass Drum adorned with his mismatched socks that were not a statement of any kind, it was just Sam. So, whenever you wear this shirt, think of Sam, smile, and do something positive for someone and know that Love does win.
Message from Sam's Mom, Nicole:
Logan, Sam's brother, and I decided not long ago that if Sam were still alive, he wouldn't want to be memorialized by his HS colors for eternity. (We all know he spent SO much time there in his senior year!! :) ) We decided on black and red for this fundraiser (We did include a PHS colored t-shirt in case you all would rather have one of those).
Ironically, black and red are also the colors for remembering homicide victims. I never would have thought, in my wildest dreams, that Sam and homicide would ever be used in the same sentence, but that is our reality. Everything has changed for us. We miss him so very much. The way we see this world is forever skewed through a lens that we are still not ready to accept. We find ourselves asking "why?" and knowing underneath it all that there is probably no explanation that will suffice.
October will be a challenging month for us. The trials are on the October schedule, however, we realize that they could get moved again and probably will.
The first anniversary of his murder is Oct. 15. Early that morning, one year ago, his "friend" picked him up to help him fix his computer and Sam never came home. We searched for him for days and about 3:30 am on October 20th, we were awakened by police and the DA and told that they found his body in a ditch. They had waited to tell us until they arrested the two young men who brutally murdered him. His funeral came and went with over 900 people in attendance and even more watching online.
October sounds so very overwhelming for us right now. We are looking for positive ways to help us through this anniversary. Watching Sam's scholarship fund grow makes our hearts smile. Sam was good. He was murdered doing a favor for a "friend". He would not want sadness and grief for us. He would not want hate or revenge to be a part of our lives. (He would kick our butts if we let this paralyze us forever!!).
We try to speak of him and remember him in ways that honor him and the awesome young man that he was.
We ask that you do that same when you think or speak about him.
Whether or not you can participate in this fundraiser, we ask that you do something good on purpose for someone in Sam's name. We hold tight to #lovewins and feel all of your love an support. Thank you all for loving us and especially for loving our Sam.
