Don't Feed the Impostor Syndrome

"Impostor Syndrome "reflects a belief that you’re an inadequate and incompetent failure despite evidence that indicates you’re skilled and quite successful" (Wilding). As MS and PhD graduate students, the amount of work required for us to complete our degrees can be so taxing that we may often completely ignore or discredit the work and accomplishments that got us into graduate school to begin with. This mindset is also pervasive among the academic community at large. We want to change this mentality here in BYU's IP&T program. We want all students, faculty, and staff regardless of where they are in their schooling or careers, to not feed the impostor syndrome by understanding that they have done great things and will continue to do great things because they are, in fact, GREAT! A group of students wore the shirts to a professional conference, which garnered attention and generated good conversations between students, professors, and professionals about the influence of impostor syndrome." - BYU IP&T Graduate Program (Nov 28, 2018)
