Kent School Class of 2025

"Every May, the junior class (about 125 students) hikes up a mountain that sits in the middle of our campus. One of its peaks has a big rock that faces the town of Kent. The day the juniors hike up together is called Rock Day, when they celebrate their class and paint each other their class colors. The hike is followed by beach volleyball and a BBQ strictly for the juniors, and they get the whole day off from school for this. It is one of the oldest traditions, a very special tradition. This paint also covers the front of the rock where their class year (25) is also painted in their class colors. So, when driving into Kent from the south, people now see 25 painted in blue and orange on that rock in the mountain. Those numbers stay on the rock until the next junior class chooses their colors, has their rock day, and paints over it. This year, the class of 2025 chose to commemorate their classmate, Owen, who was diagnosed with Leukemia during their freshmen year and passed away the next summer, and made the color Orange, which represents Leukemia awareness, part of their class colors. The "landmark" we designed is our school mascot, a lion, and we placed an orange ribbon over it. We had such an overwhelming interest in these shirts, which are only for our juniors, so we are planning to place another order in the coming days, with the design slightly adjusted. the photo attached is a close up of the backs of the shirts so you can clearly see our design. the front has a little patch on the chest with "rock day" above our school crest and "2025" below it." - Owen Strong 2025 (May 16, 2024)
