With Luck from Chuck Purple Stride 2015

"This is our team picture for the Purple Stride 2015. I wanted to become a runner. That was my New Year’s resolution in 2011. I started slowly, and Chuck was my first coach, blowing the whistle as I transitioned from walking to running. I ran three 5k's that year, the last being just days after we received his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer shortly before Labor Day. I wasn't going to run the race, but he wouldn't hear of it. The gift of running that he gave to me helped me cope through those dark days, even if it was only 10 minutes to run, cry and scream at the same time. His battle ended way too soon at the end of that year. I thought I'd never run again since I didn't have someone to check in with, but I met Robyn Gault from Fleet Feet Sports in Gaithersburg and signed up for the No Boundaries program to help me return to running. I now am a coach of that program and aim to inspire new runners just as Chuck inspired me. I am also blessed to have met so many new friends through running and am thrilled that along with my family, many of them have decided to join me in Team "With Luck from Chuck." Our team name is based upon my uncanny luck to win raffles at Fleet Feet. On Saturday, June 13, Team "With Luck from Chuck" used our running legs to help to raise funds to further research for this dreaded disease. Custom Ink was awesome in helping us get our team looking great and getting all of our shirts on a very timely basis. CustomInk made our team look great!" - Mary Willett (Jun 15, 2015)
