About this campaign

Growing up, we just assumed "orbisculate" was a word. Our father, Neil Krieger, had been using the term ever since he invented it back in college to describe that moment when you dig your spoon into a grapefruit and it squirts juice directly into your eye. In fact, we only discovered that the word was made up after losing a $5 bet to a friend over whether or not it was in the dictionary.

Our father passed away in April from Covid-19, and this word is hardly the only legacy he left us. He also taught us the value of finding a way to laugh even in dark times; of following your own path; and of making up your own solution to a problem whenever you don't like the ones in front of you.

So we thought a fitting way to honor his memory would be to try to get his word into the dictionary (plus, maybe it would help us get our $5 back). We're launching a campaign to do exactly that, which you can read all about at www.orbisculate.com. Wearing these T-shirts is one fun way to spread the word, and it's also a way to support a wonderful charity.

Carson's Village
is an organization that helps grieving families in the aftermath of losing a loved one, which you can read all about at www.carsonsvillage.org. The charity helps with everything from funeral arrangements to grief counseling. We've gotten to know them over the last few months and see their commitment to helping those in need, so we have decided to give 100% of the proceeds from our T-shirt sales to them.

I think this is a unique way to honor what appears to be an excellent human.

I am an SLP who works to share the love of words with my students. I also had a wonderful and funny father like yours. So sorry for your loss . Your dad sounds like he was an incredible human being! I promise to spread the word on his word!

Such a creative way to remember your Dad and a great way to pass his memory on to all future generations of your family. When I use my apple slicer gizmo when baking with apples, I get orbisculated multiple times! Right there with you.

I love words. I was nuts about the sniglet rage in the 70s (Flen: the crusty stuff in the cap and neck of a bottle of Ketchup). Always looking for new words. And to honor your dad who sounds like a fun, life-loving guy. Bless him and you!

This story is awesome! What an awesome way to honor their father snd his personality! It’s a lasting legacy AND I’m relieved to finally have the word for this occurrence!

Lost my mom in 2020 and appreciate the desire to not only remember your dad but also help others with loss. Also, I have forever been orbitsculated by both oranges and grapefruits.

A pandemic is "verschluggeneh", and unless that word is Yiddish, my dad made it up, along with a lot of other ridiculous words my family used. Orbisculation reigns!
