Our Youngest Youth Advocates: Advocacy Day 2013

"I had a great time working with you all as I already commented on my stellar evaluation of your work. On 4/11/2013 I organized 200 young people from across the state of Illinois ranging in age from 6th grade to 22. This photo is of three of our youngest advocates from Champaign-Urbana Eater Junior High School. Students spent the morning learning organizing strategies, the ins-and-outs of advocacy and the democratic process, and prepping materials to speak to their legislators. Afterwards, students marched to the Capitol and were able to get their message across. Closing out the event, students gathered at the Rotunda and were given an energizing speech by Senator Kotowski where he reaffirmed his support of School Health Centers and adolescent health initiatives and talked to the students about leadership. The young man on the left got up after the Senator and made a statement about why adolescent health matters to him in front of the whole group. It was an exhilarating event and the red shirts really helped us stand out! " - http://www.ilmaternal.org - Advocacy Day 2013! (Apr 15, 2013)
