UR Toys For All Toys: Undergraduates Adapt Toys For Use By Children With Physical Disabilities
"Undergraduate students in the University of Rochester Hajim School for Engineering and Applied Sciences take battery-operated toys, analyze and re-wire connections, adapting them to accommodate enabling switches for children with physical disabilities, so they can play, too. The toys pictured in the photo were brought to Golisano Children's Hospital (see http://www.rochester.edu/newscenter/toys-tots-golisano-children-special-needs-290732/ which also shows students wearing the t-shirts) so pediatric nurses and physical therapists can use the toys to motivate and reward children during therapy sessions.
The T-shirts are worn during our adaptation events--we invite members from the local community to help 'adapt a toy'--so that group members can be easily identified. Twice now Custom Ink has promptly delivered our 'urgent' orders in time to be worn for public events (the group continues to grow! another $100 would help bring in t-shirts for more students joining next fall!)"
