Fontana High School Cheer 2015-2016

"My name is Debby Tseng (or "Coach T") and I am the Head Cheer Coach for Fontana High School. I got hired in the beginning of February 2015 after completing my teaching credentials in January 2015. As soon as I got hired, I knew that I wanted to get involved with cheer. I was offered the Head Coach position after working with the team for about a month and a half - I cannot tell you how excited I was! Working with these athletes has been a process. The uniforms they had when I took over the program were ill fitting and of cheap quality/material. The uniforms these girls purchased were literally unraveling and falling apart, the seams were becoming undone and the uniform was not custom fitted (as cheerleading uniforms SHOULD be). Fontana High School is a Title 1 school, meaning that a large majority of our students are from low-income, minority, non-English speaking backgrounds. In addition to being a Title 1 school, the Fontana High School Cheerleading Program does NOT receive any funding from Athletics. We have NO safety mats or equipment, we also do NOT have any tumbling or gymnastics equipment, all of which are pertinent to the success and skill development of our athletes. We often practice outside because our cheer room does not even fit our JV and Varsity teams (and there is only a total of 26 girls in the entire program). These polos that we purchased from CustomInk were the first uniform piece that the girls have received since I took over the program. For some other cheer teams, a polo might not mean much to them, but for ours, it meant the world. It meant that these athletes could finally look and feel like a team. It meant that they could finally have the confidence as a team to attend and perform at an event. The first event that the girls wore these polos to was a district wide event called Kicks for Scholars. It was a benefit soccer game between the employees of the City of Fontana and the employees of the Fontana Unified School District. All proceeds are put towards scholarships offered to students pursuing higher education within our district, which promotes continued education after high school. The girls were so excited to show off their new polos and we got so many compliments! This is the beginning of something amazing... We are so happy that CustomInk was part of the beginning of our journey! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!" - (May 18, 2015)
