"Every year since 1989, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation holds the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), which raises money for life-saving research and continual quality care for CF patients. CF is a chronic, genetic, as-of-yet incurable illness that affects about 30,000 people in the U.S. (70,000 worldwide). CF is caused by a defective gene that regulates the chloride channels in your body, which creates a thick, sticky mucous that clogs up the lungs and digestive system, causing life-threatening lung infection and an inability to break down and absorb food.
My name is Mattie, and I (the shortest person in the picture, not including the baby) have CF, and wanted to walk this year to help raise money for a cure. This picture is of my team, "Chronically Fabulous," who so far has raised more than $1400. CustomInk played a big part in this as well, as a portion of the money we raised from the t-shirts shown here were donated to the CF Foundation.
