"If Your Dreams Don't Scare You, You Aren't Dreaming Big Enough"

"I am a first year teacher at North Monterey County Middle School and I organized a field trip to Stanford University for 88 students who dream of going to a four-year university in the future. This photo shows some of my AVID students and I at our field trip to Stanford University on May 13th. I teach AVID, which is an elective class that aims to prepare all students for college readiness and success in a global society. Many of my students are socio-economically disadvantaged and many will be first-generation college students. This field trip was an opportunity for students to visit a college campus for the first time and begin setting goals towards making their college dreams a reality. To make this field trip possible, my students worked collaboratively on various fundraiser projects for two months (they sold tamales at a local church, organized a movie night, and even walked dogs for their neighbors). I was so impressed with their hard work and dedication, I decided to order them t-shirts to wear on the field trip. I held a t-shirt design contest and picked one of my student's designs.
