"We started the day off with coffee and bagels from my absolute favorite coffee shop - Philz Coffee in San Mateo.
We then headed north to the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco to walk with the Alliance for Lupus Research to cure lupus. This year, H-Town raised $3,458 dollars for Alliance for Lupus Research, 100% of which will go directly to fund lupus research. Our team was the top fundraiser in the San Francisco Bay Area (aside from corporate donors). H-Town truly does get down - GO TEAM! We also joined hundreds of other people in the Bay Area committed to finding a cure - from people affected by this disease to people who are walking on behalf of a loved one who passed away from lupus.
This year's walk was particularly challenging for me. As most of you are aware, my mom has been faced with some significant health challenges over the past year. Walking on behalf of this terrible disease brought me face to face with the harsh realities of lupus and the devastation it brings to some many individuals and families. It also highlighted the strength my mom brings as she works to kick Lupus' butt every single day.
Six days after the ALR walk, we have received news that my mom has officially been placed on the list for a lung transplant! While I am faced with innumerable emotions, this is truly a blessing that will give my mom her life back and will give me my mom back. As we embark on this journey, it is comforting to know that so many people are walking next to us."
