"These shirts were part of a special reunion we had in late May for our beloved Captain who commanded our submarine from 1967-1969, and led us to two consecutive efficiency awards during his tenure. His motto was "It only costs a little more to go first class", but was amended to "It only costs a NICKEL more to go first class" by a shipmate, and the latter stuck.
