Protected Imagery

We’re here to help you create something you love, while also making sure your order follows copyright and trademark laws. Some designs require permission to print, and there are certain types of content we aren’t able to produce without approval from the rights holder. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Why permissions are sometimes required

Official graphics and names - like those used on album covers, TV shows, sports jerseys, or brand merchandise - are protected by trademark or copyright. To print these elements, we need written permission from the owner of that content.

Permission is typically required for designs that include:

  • Bands or musicians
  • Celebrities
  • TV shows or movies
  • Colleges or universities
  • Professional sports teams
  • Greek organizations
  • Brand logos or brand names
  • Disney or Disney-affiliated content

Approval usually comes from the organization’s licensing department, a band’s management team, or an official university contact.

What to do if your design includes protected content

If you already have written permission, please email it to us at service@customink.com, and we’ll take it from there.

If you don’t have permission, we won’t leave you stuck. We can help remove the protected elements or work with you to create a custom alternative that fits your vision.

Our promise to you

If your design needs to be adjusted, we’ll explain why and work with you to find the best solution. Our goal is always the same: to help you end up with a product you’re excited to wear, share, or gift, without surprises or stress along the way.

If you ever have questions about what’s allowed, you can also check out our Content Standards, or contact us. We’re always happy to help.
