2015 AP Stats Prediction Run

"Hi! My name is Erica Chauvet. I organize a very unique race. Each June hundreds of AP Statistics teachers travel to a designated city (Kansas City, this year) to grade approximately AP Statistics Exams. We work from 8-5 grading these exams for 7 straight days. This year we graded 200,000 exams (1.2 million individual free response questions)! This is a long and mentally exhausting process. To relieve some stress and get everyone moving I organize a fun run that is held one of the evenings of the work week. I do this as a service for my fellow colleagues. Our group is widely varied in age and athletic ability. We do all have one thing in common. We love teaching Statistics! In order to give everyone a chance of winning, prior to the race (which is 1.96 miles - a special number in statistics), everyone submits a guess as to how many minutes/seconds they think it will take them to complete the course. The participant whose actual time is closest to their predicted time wins the grand prize. This year I gave away an Apple TV. This year, I also gave away Custom Ink designed sweat towels to every 5th finisher (a Systematic Random Sample, in statistical terms!). I have always been involved with organizing this social event (which began 6 years ago), but I fully took over all responsibilities two years ago. When I took over, I wanted to upgrade the quality of the race shirts. The previous organizer sold cotton shirts. As I searched online I found Custom Ink. I was SO excited about the pricing structure, design lab, color options, moisture wicking material...everything. I honestly mean this with all sincerity: I LOVE CUSTOM INK. The Custom Ink website is so easy to navigate and the customer service is top notch. I could not be more satisfied. I recommend Custom Ink to everyone who asks "Where did you get these awesome shirts!" I was so thrilled to hear that you were having a photo submission contest. My event is not funded. At all. I have no sponsors. No donors. This year we had 320 participants! I sell the race shirts for $15 each. The difference between that and the price I have to pay for them determines my budget. I spend every penny I receive through shirt sales to make this event one that is fun and memorable for everyone. :) If we were to win, the $100 credit would greatly increase my "budget" and would be a huge help! I say this with the hopes of winning the contest, however, while the race I host promotes fitness, health, wellness, and fun, we are not a charity. If another group applies for the contest this week that is raising money for cancer, to reach people with the gospel, or to help children with disabilities, etc, please do not hesitate to award the $100 credit to them. If, though, you chose to bless my group with the prize please know that I will use the funds with the utmost care to increase group cohesiveness, promote wellness and fitness for a very large group of teachers. I submitted a photo, but if you would like a feel for the joy that you help to provide through this event please click on the link below to check out the brief video I made showing some highlights from this year's event. This video was played at our closing ceremonies just prior to giving out the race awards. https://youtu.be/c_cg32pNvkE Thank you so much for your consideration!" - Loving our Custom Ink Shirts!
