"Running with Steve Ruddy"

"Steve Ruddy passed away on April 7, 2012 just as he was finishing a 10 mile run; he was almost home. Steve loved running and he played guitar and was passionate about music. When we heard that the Rock n Roll Half Marathon was coming to San Francisco for the first time, on April 7, 2013, we knew running or walking it was the right way to spend the day. Steve's dad, sisters, wife and many friends signed up (more tried to sign up but the race sold out too quickly!) to run. Another group of over 20 of Steve's friends took over an aid station, dressed in 80's rock outfits, and handed out water, gatorade and beer to thirsty runners. Any year that Steve didn't do the San Francisco marathon he was volunteering at an aid station. Unfortunately not everyone was in the group photo since some got the race start late and had to go straight to the start - 18 of us ran in honor of Steve. Someone running asked two of us which race our shirt was from since he hadn't seen it before, when we explained it he told us "that's really great, I actually feel his spirit with me right now" and he started running faster!" - Rock n Ruddy (Apr 08, 2013)
