About this campaign
Proceeds from the sales of these apparel items support Women's Service Day in its continuing renovation of the Pathways MI facility (now part of the Arbor Circle Corporation).
Pathways works to provide loving homes for abused and neglected kids who end up in foster care. Michigan has approximately 13,000 children in foster care and, for those transitioning from foster care to adulthood, the statistics are hard to hear: 25% of them will be homeless. Within a year and a half, 84% will become parents. Half will be unemployed. We need to change those statistics.
Women’s Service Day thus far has refreshed the lobby and reception area, outdoor landscaping, courtyard, a staff collaboration area, a family conference room, and a large training room. Up for 2016: The event food preparation kitchen and the adjacent staff lounge. Our hope is to continue room by room, hallway by hallway, until the entire building is welcoming and life-affirming.
Sales here will build the renovation fund at Pathways MI so that this work can continue.
WOMEN'S SERVICE DAY
A grass-roots event that began with 50 women who responded to a call to build a Habitat for Humanity house for a single mother has blossomed into an annual event in its fifteenth year: Women’s Service Day. The spirit of giving—time, talent, and donations—is alive and growing in the West Michigan community.
The day of service to women and children is focused on these goals:
- Make a difference in our community—and having a great time doing so.
- Increase awareness of issues for women and children in the community.
- Promote networking amongomen in our community.
Women’s Service Day is an opportunity for volunteers to offer time, skills, and talent to nonprofit organizations in the Holland/Zeeland area. In the past, we've cleaned and organized, painted and finished, landscaped and weeded, cooked and baked, washed windows, assembled lesson plans and materials, organized and led after-school activities for middle school girls, made cards for families with loved ones who are terminally ill or living in nursing facilities, and prepared buildings for construction.
